Product Review: Softcup & Shea Moisture Sugar Wax
In preparation for my trip to Trinidad carnival this year I tried two products that I highly recommend!!!
I actually just started using sugar wax as opposed to cream and honey wax because I was having adverse skin reactions. I now swear by sugar wax, it is so much gentler on my skin and it is very easy to clean off. Some of you might be questioning how I wax myself, but it is actually a lot easier than you think for those of you that have never done it.
I had to switch to different sugar waxing product at the last minute because I'm a procrastinator at times and ran out of the brand I'd been using. So, I was forced to get the Shea Moisture's No-Heat Sugar Wax because that the only brand the BSS had. Now, if you Google this product you'll notice that the reviews are below average to average but it's not nearly that bad. The key to using this brand is that you do actually have to heat it up for about 15-30 seconds. Furthermore, you have to smooth the wax strip down and leave it on for a bit before taking it off. If you apply using this method then the product works pretty well. I also like the fact that the sugar wax has a really nice fragrance.
The other product that I used was the Softcup. My worst nightmare came true when my cycle came during the carnival season. I must say that I was devastated! I thought OMG I won't be able to play mas! What am I going to do? So I decided to try a period cup. I know that some of you may be thinking ewe that's gross but it is actually less messy than using a regular pad or tampon. Moreover, according to the manufacturers of the Softcup, there hasn't been any reports of the development of toxic shock syndrome.
Below is some information about Softcup taken from their website:
Softcup Loves Making Love
With Softcup, you and your partner can enjoy mess-free intercourse during your period, and neither of you will even feel it's there.
Softcup Keeps You 'Fresh'
Menstrual odor is caused by menstrual fluid being exposed to air. Because Softcup holds menstrual fluid internally, it eliminates dampness and odor.
Softcup is Body-Friendly
Safety is important when it comes to your reproductive health. Softcup has been on the market for more than 18 years and is made entirely of a hypoallergenic, non-toxic, latex-free, non-irritating material. In more than 18 years and 250 million Softcups sold, Softcup has never had a reported incidence of Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS). TSS is believed to be caused by the toxin-producing strains of the bacterium Staphylococcus Aureus. Population studies suggest that the risk of TSS is related to tampon absorbency. The higher the tampon absorbency, the higher the risk of contracting TSS. Unlike tampons, Softcup is non-absorbent, and does not change the bacteria levels naturally present in the body.
I'm happy to report that I found Softcup to be highly effective, I didn't have any incidents on Carnival Monday or Carnival Tuesday :)
