Carnival Glow-Up...Say Cheese!
I can't even begin to count the amount of people, non-West Indians mostly, that want to play mas but are reluctant to expose their bodies. I belong to a few blogger pods and so many of the women comment that they "wish they had the figure to pull that off." I find myself constantly reassuring people that anyone can play mas-you don't have to be a certain size or age range.
Notwithstanding, part of my recent lack of love for the artform is due in part my own self-image issues. Let me be very very very clear-I DON'T HAVE LOW SELF-ESTEEM. That said, I'm in my 30's, I have a kid, and physiological changes are becoming noticeable. I've been playing mas since I was a child and never thought I'd get to a point where I did't want to play mas because of my physical appearance.
As I mention in my previous blog post my new project is called Carnival Glow-Up. I'll be taking you all along on my glow-up journey. The first stop on my glow-up journey involves my smile, yes my smile. About three years ago my teeth started shifting, weird right? Apparently, this is pretty common among female 30 somethings. At first the shift didn't bother me because my teeth grew in pretty straight without any prior orthodontic work, but the problem grew progressively worse.
So, I decided to get braces! I'll be posting a YouTube video soon, going into detail about my "adult braces experience." In the meantime here's a picture of me with my newest accessory.
