Carnival Glow Up...What's on the Menu?
I've searched far and wide for a diet and I finally found one, okay I haven't really searched but this one piqued my interest!
How many of you like me have a ton of issues when it comes to your second brain? Yes, your second brain is also known as your stomach. I'm not even sure where to start with this story but I became a pesco-ovo-vegetarian when I was about 17 years old. I maintained this lifestyle until I became pregnant at 31. Baby wanted chicken, so I gave him chicken! Although I can't ever see myself go back to any variation of a vegetarian lifestyle, I will say that I was able to maintain a healthier stable weight. Since having my son my weight has been all over the place -- literally +/- 50 lbs depending on the season and my stress level.
To add to this, I have some issues like food intolerances to like lactose and FODMAPs. I also have a health issue that causes weight gain and the craziest thing is that the medication to somewhat treat it also causes weight gain, a hot mess I know right! For this reason, maintaining a healthy and consistent weight when I reintroduced meat to my diet has been elusive.
I tried a diet that actually works about a year ago but fell off because it just did not work for my schedule. It called for eating low-carb, high protein meals, in two to three-hour intervals, while working out at least five days a week. This diet was highly effective and I lost about 15lbs but I had a hard time eating every two to three hours, my schedule at the time made it very difficult.
Then the Keto diet kind of interested me but I think that balance is everything and I didn't want to over indulge in any food category. I overdid it with pineapple a few months ago and it was a gynecological nightmare. If you're asking yourself why I was eating so much pineapple--you already know the answer and if you don't Google it.
Wake Up Call
Last Saturday I woke up at about 4am to Access Hollywood doing a segment on Kelly Clarkson's weight loss. Let me just say this was totally divine intervention, I have no idea why I just happened to wake up at this time. Anyways, so I know that Clarkson has had an on-going issue with Thyroid disease and she has also had yo-yo weight problems. I share a similar hormonal problem so I immediately thought that perhaps this diet might work for me too.
Later that day I went to B&N to buy both books (cookbook and guide) to learn more about the diet. I skimmed both books while at the store and was really intrigued by the idea of a lectin free diet. I don't want to give too much of the book away but the idea is that there is a hidden toxin lurking in seemingly healthy foods like tomatoes, zucchini, quinoa, and brown rice: a class of plant-based proteins called lectins.
